When I, along with a few friends, opened Vienna's first Head and Grow shop in a cellar in Mariahilf in July 1997, I could not have imagined that Bushplanet would become the nucleus of the Austrian hemp scene, nor where this wonderful adventure would eventually lead me.
As early as April 1998, we were the very first in Austria to start producing and selling hemp cuttings. In the fall of the same year we organized the first legalization demonstration „Hanffeuer“, with many more to follow.
The Bushplanet Head and Grow shop became a magnet for hemp friends from all over Austria. Some were inspired and founded their own hemp shops, which we then supplied with good from our own wholesale distribution.
While the Headshop on the ground floor remained a staple for decades, starting in 2001, we operated the „Kingsize Growshop“ on the ground floor, which then moved to Mariahilfer Strasse as „Bushplanet Citygrow“ in 2008 and finally to Margaretenstrasse 121.
Later, we established the Growcery cutting production in the basement, until the spectacular Hemp Embassy with potent flowering plants was opened in 2015.
Now, after 27 years of uninterrupted operation, we would like to give our main store a little break. Therefore, we will be closing our Esterhazygasse branch as of July 31, 2024, until further notice.
We will use this pause to develop a new, spectacular concept for the location. It was not only since the legalization in Germany that we have been thinking about how we can improve the specific situation in Austria for all friends of the hemp plant. Bushplanet continues to stand for making the impossible possible!
