Grinder Guide - A guide to grinders

Grinder, crusher, herb mill - call it whatever you like!

A grinder or crusher is a mill for your weed. Of course, even if you smoke regularly, you don't necessarily need a grinder to chop your herbs, you can simply crumble the flowers with your fingers. Nevertheless, many cannabis lovers use the practical weed mills, because it makes the preparation of the herbs much easier. Especially if you use very sticky material, the use of crushers is recommended. This way you avoid sticky fingers and get your buds small in no time!

Which grinder is the right one for you and what you should consider when buying, we would like to briefly explain in the following article.

The most common forms of crushers

2-piece grinders

Such models have an upper and a lower part that fit together perfectly. They do not have a thread, but are usually held together by a magnet so that the two parts can be turned in opposite directions. A big plus point for this variant is the format. They are usually nice and flat, fit in every bag and are especially recommended for travelling.

4-piece grinder

This version of crushers is by far the most popular form among cannabis lovers. The mode of operation is similar to the 2-part version: the upper two parts are also magnetic and equipped with grinding teeth. In it you'll grind your herbs until they're so small that they'll reach the next level! The ground flowers fall through small holes into the middle of the grinder and land on a sieve. The pollen collects through this sieve in the lowest level of the grinder. This way you get a fine cannabis concentrate that you can use as you like after grinding several times.

5-piece grinder

Grinders with 5 parts have exactly the same design as the 4-part models. In addition to this, however, they offer another sieve, so you can choose between a finer or coarser version! A finer-meshed sieve means that the pollen dust is of better quality, but a coarser sieve collects far more pollen.

Other versions of 5-part grinders have only one screen, but installed separately. This has the advantage that the sieve on which the ground herbs land can be removed when the plant material is taken out. In this way, the pollen is safely retained in the grinder and is not transported back through the sieve when it is cleared out.

Grinder cards

The cheese grater among the crushers! Grinder cards come in credit card format and are equipped with sharp-edged holes. You rub your buds through the holes like on a grater, in the best case directly into the longpaper or into the bong head. This makes them ideal for spontaneous use on the road, because they fit in every wallet!

The different grinder materials and their advantages

Aluminum

Most metal grinders as you know them are made of aluminum. This material is perfect for grinders because it is light and durable, inexpensive to produce and yet of excellent quality. Aluminum is also used, for example, for piercings or medical cutlery. With cheaper models made of aluminium, however, it can happen that the grinder cannot be moved smoothly. So when you buy it, make sure that the Crusher does not jam or squeak when you turn it!

Stainless steel

Grinders made of stainless steel are rather rare. They differ from the aluminium version above all in their robustness. The material simply withstands more! So if you are looking for a really indestructible herb mill, you should definitely take a closer look at the stainless steel models.

Ceramic-coated

Some exclusive grinder models have a special ceramic coating. This is a real breakthrough when it comes to longevity. The plant material does not stick to the ceramic surface: the crusher keeps itself clean much longer and always remains easy to turn!

Wood

A timeless classic is certainly the wooden grinder. The first versions of the useful grinding tools as we know them used to be classically made of wood. Nowadays the wooden models are mostly equipped with grinding teeth made of stainless steel or aluminum. Two-piece wooden grinders are the order of the day, and finding a four-piece version can be rather difficult.

Plastic

Acrylic or plastic grinders are becoming more and more popular, especially among vaporizer users. So now you're probably wondering, "Why?". Although these models are particularly inexpensive to buy and the material plastic is generally a little frowned upon, they do have one decisive advantage: they grind your weed smaller than any other grinder! Unfortunately, the life of plastic mills is not as long as that of other materials, because the plastic teeth wear out faster.
